From the # 1 New York Times and International bestselling author, Jennifer L. Armentrout writing as J.Lynn, comes a richly moving story about heartbreak and guilt, second chances and hope. Full of familiar, fan-favorite characters and no two people more deserving of a happy ending, Fire In You will burn bright beyond the last page…

Jillian Lima’s whole world was destroyed in a span of a few hours. The same night her childhood love, Brock ‘the Beast’ Mitchell, broke her heart, her life was irrevocably altered by the hand of a stranger with a gun. It takes six years to slowly glue together the shattered pieces of her life, but Jillian is finally ready to stop existing in a past full of pain and regret. She takes a job at her father’s martial arts Academy and she’s going out on her first date since a failed relationship that was more yuck than yum. Jillian is determined to start living.

She just never expected Brock to be a part of her life again. But he’s firmly back in her life before she knows it, and not only is he older, he’s impossibly more handsome, more teasing and more everything. And when he sees Jillian, he’s no longer capable of thinking of her as the little girl who was his shadow growing up or the daughter of the man who gave him a second chance at life. He sees the woman who’d always been there for him, the one person who believed in him no matter what.

Brock knows she’s the one he should’ve made his, and what begins as a tentative friendship quickly turns to red-hot chemistry that sparks a flame that burns brighter than lust. Falling for Brock again risks more than her heart, because when the past sorrow-filled and guilt-ridden past resurfaces, and a web of lies threatens to rip them apart, the fallout could lay waste to everything they’ve fought to build together, and destroy the dreams of those they care most about.

REVIEW

I got a late start in the New Adult genre reading extravaganza. It was late 2014 before I caught on, but I was instantly hooked. I scoured the internet(this was before I discovered the amazingness that is Goodreads) to find more new adult authors. Every YouTube video had the same recs. They were the “Queens” of New Adult and J. Lynn was sitting among them.

Due to my late arrival on the NA romance scene I never got the chance to start the Wait for You series, but I was excited to see what all the hype was about!

We meet Jillian at a crossroads in her life. It becomes known that Jillian went through a horrific event that left her disfigured and living but not existing. In her younger years she only had eyes for Brock “The Beast” Mitchell. But before he became “The Beast” he was a troubled young boy that became a part of her family.

“I didn’t understand how, because in a house often filled with voices and people and even when it was silent and nearly empty, no one really saw me. But this boy did.”

She was so infatuated with him that she was practically his shadow. Despite her friends warnings that he didn’t see her much more than a younger sister due to their 7 year age difference, she never lost hope that one day Brock would be hers.

“He treats her like a little sister/slave. He’s not worth it. Not yet.”

But then tragedy struck and despite all the times she had been there for him, Brock failed to be there for her.

Right from the get go I was torn with Brock. I wanted to hate him and guard my heart from him. The more I learned about the night of the accident, the more pissed I became with Brock. I knew that he had let Jillian down, but I knew that there are always two sides of each story. But how could he give up on her? How can we forgive him?

Jillian spent the next 7 years in a standstill. She was just drifting from one day to the next. But fate is a sneaky bitch and just when you think your life will stay the same status quo, it alters completely.

“Love is a fire. But whether it is going to warm your heart or burn down your house, you can never tell.”–Joan Crawford

I hurt so bad for both of these characters. There was so much damage to both of them that it just broke my heart.

“Did you…did you miss me this whole time?” I drew in a shallow breath.
“I missed you.” Brock’s gaze held mine. “Missed you every fucking day, Jillian, with every ounce of who I am.”

One thing that I’ve always enjoyed with J. Lynn’s writing is how she will flip your perspective on what you’ve only known to be true. Jillian being Brock’s shadow, Jillian living, but not existing, Brock having the fire that fuels him. But true to her character, Armentrout opens our eyes to see beyond the peripheral.

Neither of us was really living.

Brock needed to move on from that night, and God’s honest truth, so did I, because I hadn’t.

If you’ve read the prior novels, you will be happy to know that there is plenty of reappearances of prior characters. And although I haven’t read them, I know that Fire in You will be an excellent addition to this series.
