For Matthew Rohan, every day is a struggle. Each task others complete without thinking is a challenge for him. Recently orphaned, he has to finish the last few months of high school and take care of his disabled sister on his own.
When Mayra comes into his life, his comfortable routines implode. Matthew can’t handle change, but Mayra is unrelenting in her quest to understand him, to show him acceptance and maybe even love. When she breaks through his shell, Matthew’s world will never be the same again.
An awkward boy with Asperger’s Syndrome, a persistent girl who pulls him out of his isolated existence, and a lottery ticket that will change their lives forever.
Meet my latest hero crush… his name is Matthew Rohan and he’s not your usual, cookie-cutter hero. He’s different, special… he’s got Asperger’s and OCD but there is something about him that is irresistible. Maybe it’s his huge heart, his courage, his undying devotion for the woman he loves. Or maybe it’s his passion and his intellect. He may be hard to understand and deal with a lot of the time, but he more than makes up for it with his noble, honest heart. And oh yeah, it doesn’t hurt that he’s hot as hell. He’s strong and powerful physically, he loves Wushu, Kickboxing, Aikido and Tae Kwon Do. He’s silent and prefers to practice alone. His punching bag is his lifeline to get rid of his frustrations.
I absolutely loved this book. Shay Savage is the queen of the male POV. I will never tire of saying that. The entire novel is written in Matthew’s POV, which is so well done it blows my mind. I don’t think there’s another romance author right now that is bolder and braver than Shay Savage. She’s true to her muse and she’s fearless when it comes to writing books completely outside the norm. Be it a hero that is a literal caveman, or an anti-hero that is a mafia enforcer, or an eighteen year old with autism, she can do it all… she never fails to deliver.
As soon as I read the synopsis for this book and saw the cover (isn’t this cover the cutest thing?) I knew I had to read this book asap and I wasn’t dissapointed at all. In fact, I’ve sat on this book the last couple of hours and decided to round my initial rating of 4.5 to 5 stars. It’s just so sweet, tender and meaningful. I think every romance reader should read it, and it’s a shame that can’t be true because this is a gem. Matthew’s POV is so carefully done, it’s unadorned and sincere. Mayra, our heroine, was worthy… one of the most likable heroines I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet.
This book had me sighning and smiling all the way through. It was the kind of book I couldn’t stop thinking about when I put it down. The hero never left my thoughts. I felt utterly in love with him. It made me want to wake up at 3 in the morning just to keep reading. Not many books can achieve that.
Matthew made me want to reach into my kindle and kiss him and hold him. I felt his struggle, got teary eyed, then celebrated his triumphs along with him. Every chapter of his life is either a win or a loss in his book. He has to navigate his world, largely alone, struggling to keep it together through things that are so simple for the rest. So yes, his losses were my losses and his wins my wins.
Shay Savage… you continue to be one of my favorite romance authors. You deserve all the praise you can get because there are so very few authors as skilled as you. I will read anything you put out, because EVERY.SINGLE. TIME you surprise me. I need to own this book in paperback, and as soon as I can, I’ll do something about that. The message itself is so gorgeous, the coming of souls so pure, it’s romance at its best. <3
Five romantic, heart-warming stars, and to my favorites it goes.
