Twenty-two years ago, I was cut from a cold, sodden womb, and cradled in the filth and poverty of Chicago’s concrete arms. Statistically, I wasn’t supposed to survive these streets past the age of eighteen. Fate had a different plan. I was bred for one purpose and one purpose only: to unleash death and destruction on my world. My thoughts are power. My words are weapons. Evil created me then grace tried to save me. But first… they tried to kill me. They call themselves the Se7en. They are sin and salvation, and everything we’ve feared from the beginning of time. And their leader is the deadliest of them all. He doesn’t lose. He doesn’t compromise. And most importantly, he doesn’t distract himself with mortal weakness. Not until me. Kill one to save a million. That’s what he told me when he took me as his prisoner. Kill one to save a million. That’s what he’s been trying to tell himself ever since he took me into his arms.
I’m a closet paranormal junkie. My TBR and Read list doesn’t show that but it’s anything, movies, shows and books, paranormal is my jam. If it’s about witches, wizards, vampires and werewolves count me the EFF in. This book. THIS BOOK. I devoured it. I kept swiping the pages of my Kindle. I couldn’t stop reading and then all of a sudden…BAM….done. I want more. It’s Angels and Demons meets Suicide Squad mixed with a little Devil’s Advocate. It’s some bad ass stuff in here. I’ve said this before, but when a book plays out like a movie in my head, I know that I’m done for. Not all books do that for me, that’s not to say that that’s a bad thing but man, if this one is slated to hit a movie theater so help me.
Eden knows she’s “different” but can’t really explain it or let alone tell people. She has to keep herself to protect those around her and doesn’t keep anyone close because of it. It’s not until everything changes……that everything changes. That will make sense when you read this book. She’s not your typical heroine either, she changes and grows in ways that are much different than your average cookie cutter heroines. She’s tough and vulnerable but it’s just different.
L. I love him so hard and that alone makes me question my own flipping sanity. He is darkness and the light in one really nice package. He is a fighter, for the right team so to speak, but we learn his weaknesses and why he is the way that he is. The tension between Eden and L is so heavy and so very THERE and I loved every second of it. L is a leader and as a leader he’s forced to make tough decisions for his team. He’s ready to make that ultimate sacrifice for Eden. All for Eden.
This book is pure perfection. S.L. Jennings KNOWS how to paranormal with a twist, let me tell you. The Biblical references mixed with that Suicide Squad vibe was perfectly executed. As I said, I devoured this book. I can’t remember the last time I finished a book in a days time. Whether it’s just adding it to your TBR for later or grabbing it now, just get this book. You may thank me later. I WILL not spoil it BUT you’re in for a sweet treat with this book along with everything that is Eden and L. I’m telling you.
