Can your favorite hockey players finish their first season together undefeated?
Five months in, NHL forward Ryan Wesley is having a record-breaking rookie season. He's living his dream of playing pro hockey and coming home every night to the man he loves–Jamie Canning, his longtime best friend turned boyfriend. There's just one problem: the most important relationship of his life is one he needs to keep hidden, or else face a media storm that will eclipse his success on the ice.
Jamie loves Wes. He really, truly does. But hiding sucks. It's not the life Jamie envisioned for himself, and the strain of keeping their secret is taking its toll. It doesn't help that his new job isn't going as smoothly as he'd hoped, but he knows he can power through it as long as he has Wes. At least apartment 10B is their retreat, where they can always be themselves.
Or can they? When Wes's nosiest teammate moves in upstairs, the threads of their carefully woven lie begin to unravel. With the outside world determined to take its best shot at them, can Wes and Jamie develop major-league relationship skills on the fly?
Warning: contains sexual situations, a vibrating chair, long-distance sexytimes, and proof that hockey players look hot in any shade of green.
Two of my favorite boys. Two of my favorite authors. Another awesome book!
US is the sequel to HIM, one of my favorite books last year. I loved every single moment of HIM so as soon as I got the ARC for US I dove in. For me, when it comes to sequels, they can either make a series better or totally ruin it, so I must admit that I was a little hesitant. But I think at this point it’s safe to say that I fully trust that Sarina and Elle can deliver amazing and beautiful books, separate and together, and US is no exception. Just like I loved Him, I loved this book hard!
US picks up where HIM left off, with Jamie and Wes living together in Toronto. Wes is having an amazing rookie season in the NHL and Jamie is coaching a struggling minors team. Now, US is a totally different book than HIM. While HIM was about Wes and Jamie falling in love, US deals with the challenges in Wes and Jamie’s relationship now that they’ve decided to live together. The new city, the things that come with becoming adults, new jobs, constant traveling, finding time for each other and most importantly the anxiety that comes with living life in the closet.
“He’s having a terrific rookie season, and the press needs to stay focused on his goals and assists, not his sex life.”
So, yeah, it’s hard for them. The whole living a secret life is getting to them in a bad way. However, the book is not an angst-fest and there’s no unnecessary drama involved, it is as realistic as they come. Also, all the awesomeness of HIM is still present in US. The amazing relationship between Wes and Jamie, all that unconditional love, all that passion and fun is all still there. And Wes, OMG Wes is precious in this book. If Jamie was the strong one in HIM, Wes is the strong one in US.
“A desperate Wes is a fun Wes. I love forcing him to let go of some of that iron-clad control. One sportswriter called him: “Impenetrable. Unshakeable. With nerves of steel.” I know better.”
“Love is friendship set on fire.”
The book is also full of funny moments, old characters make appearances and new characters are introduced that will totally melt your heart. Yes, Blake, I’m talking about you! But above all, what does it for me is the beautiful writing and storytelling of Sarina and Elle combined, to the point where it is impossible to pinpoint who wrote what. That’s how amazing their writing together is. Simply put, US is one sequel that doesn’t disappoint. Sarina and Elle are simply magic together!
