He knows how to score, on and off the ice
Allie Hayes is in crisis mode. With graduation looming, she still doesn’t have the first clue about what she's going to do after college. To make matters worse, she’s nursing a broken heart thanks to the end of her longtime relationship. Wild rebound sex is definitely not the solution to her problems, but gorgeous hockey star Dean Di-Laurentis is impossible to resist. Just once, though, because even if her future is uncertain, it sure as heck won’t include the king of one-night stands.
It’ll take more than flashy moves to win her over
Dean always gets what he wants. Girls, grades, girls, recognition, girls…he’s a ladies man, all right, and he’s yet to meet a woman who’s immune to his charms. Until Allie. For one night, the feisty blonde rocked his entire world—and now she wants to be friends? Nope. It’s not over until he says it’s over. Dean is in full-on pursuit, but when life-rocking changes strike, he starts to wonder if maybe it’s time to stop focusing on scoring…and shoot for love.
Ok ladies, we’re here to discuss The Score by Elle Kennedy!
Can we start with Dean? Was he awesome or what?
Angie: Awesome, sweet, hot, funny as fuck, I could go on!
Christina: So AWESOME! He was way better than I thought he would!
Jaime: He is mine all mine!
Wil: I loved Dean, and little Dean and the life of Dean!
Perry: I thought Dean was phenomenal! He lived up to my expectations 100% and let me tell you, those were high. He was the perfect brand of wisecrack and sexy!
Shannon: Can you say hilarious? He was perfect! His humour matched with the other books perfectly!!!
Angie: Omg!!! Little Dean! Yes, please.
Christina: Little Dean *sigh*
Jaime: Who remembers his full name?
Beatriz: Yep, I agree with you all
Perry: He was by far the funniest of all the boys in the series so far.
Wil: He was definitely perfect! Swoony, sweet, hot, a total manwhore, a great friend.
Shannon: And those swoony moments? I melted.
Jaime: Yes Shan, he did swoony so well!
Angie: Yes, Perry! THE funniest!
Shannon: Dean Kendrick Sebastian Di-Laurentis Hayward. Maybe? Lol
Beatriz: Dean Sebastian Kendrick Heyward-Di Laurentis?
Angie: I’d like to buy a vowel.
Shannon: I think B is right. Mines the wrong order
Jaime: Lol, great memories ladies.
Wil: Dean Sebastian Kendrick Heyward-DiLaurentis
Jaime: He was close to perfect❤
Wil: What’s wrong with your parents? Why would they give you so many names?
Wil: I have to say that Elle Kennedy writes the most awesome male leads ❤
Shannon: I want all of them! It’s been decided.
Angie: Yes!!!! Totally agree!
Christina: I completely agree, Wil!
Perry: Because she has the male POV down pat?? She absolutely does.
Jaime: She really does Wil.
Wil: She does
Angie: Sorry, Shannon. Garrett is taken.
Shannon: Best I’ve ever read, that’s for sure.
Wil: By me!
Christina: NO! I want Garrett!
Shannon: *chants* Logan! Logan!
Angie: Shit. 😫
Wil: I want all 3
Perry: Dean was just so well done, I loved being in his head. I loved that he was that certain “loveable unapologetic asshole” type that I adore in my heroes.
Beatriz: Dean is a lot of fun, pretty laid-back, and also very loyal and thoughtful
Angie: Yes, Perry!!! Just. Yes.
Perry: My heart still belongs to Logan but all three heroes so far are crushable.
Jaime: I loved that he was a Manwhore and wore it proud!
Christina: Totes crushable
Angie: The banter between the guys =GOLD.
Wil: Without being over the top, they’re still very relatable characters
Shannon: But he had such a big heart too!
Wil: He did!
Christina: The Manwhore with a heart of gold!
Wil: Dean is perfect, bottom line
Perry: They’re the perfect blend of angsty and sexy!
Perry: On the perfection aspect
Ok let’s move on to Allie. What about Allie? Did we love her? I know we had concerns and some of us were Team Sabrina, did Elle pulled it off?
Shannon: Team Allie all the way. ALL THE WAY.
Angie: Yes. Abso-fucking-lutely!
Beatriz: I already liked Allie, and yes, she is great
Christina: She totally pulled it off! I loved Allie!
Perry: I never cared about the whole “it should have been Sabrina” situation.
Jaime: I was so worried about this but yes Elle pulled it off. She was awesome I really liked her.
Wil: I loved Allie, she was awesome
Perry: Allie was a phenomenal heroine. One of the best heroines I’ve ever had the pleasure to read, legit. She was so self-possessed, so amazingly relatable and cool. She was wonderfully developed.
Jaime: I think she is my fave heroine from the series so far.
Wil: Yeah, I love Hannah but Allie was a great as she was for me.
Beatriz: I loved how self-assured she is
Perry: Jaime, I would probably say so myself, although it’s been a while since I read The Deal. Allie was such a surprise. She was just so cool. I would want her to be my bestie if she were real.
Angie: She’s definitely strong. I love her personality and definitely not shy. 😉
Jaime: She had a take no shit attitude like Dean, I like that.
Wil: Yes, I was surprised by Allie, pleasantly surprised
Jaime: Yay for Allie
Angie: Very surprised. I love Allie.
Christina: I was surprised also. In a good way!
Wil: Loved that she was a wild girl inside!
Wil: Nothing boring about her.
Jaime: My nickname for her😳 not even close!
Shannon: I know some of us didn’t have a strong grasp on her character after The Deal but she came out taking names! Super strong and self assured.
Angie: What Shannon said.
Ok, let’s discuss Allie and Dean together!
Shannon: They were so good together!
Christina: Shannon, I agree! They were so perfect for each other
Shannon: They were complementary to each other, which I loved. Like one brought out the good in the other.
Jaime: Hot, funny and very very sexy😜
Beatriz: Yes. Their personalities fit very well
Christina: It was exciting to read about them together. I think they balanced each other out and made their good qualities stand out more.
Angie: Allie and Dean together is honestly, perfection. They compliment each other for sure. I feel like Dean matured, in a way because of Allie.
Wil: I think they were a perfect match in every sense. I loved that they didn’t play games with each other, they were always straight forward. Their chemistry was off the charts.
Beatriz: Their banter was a lot of fun. And the way their relationship progressed pretty much without useless drama, that was great
Shannon: And to build on what Wil said, there wasn’t second guessing. They knew what they wanted and what they were getting and went for it.
Perry: They went amazingly well together. She was the ying to his yang. I love how beautifully balanced Elle Kennedy’s characterization is. She was fierce and independent and smart enough to know how much of a player Dean was, but she never came off as a grating “biotch”. And she was also allowed to have the perfect dose of vulnerability.
Angie: Their banter was so much fun!!! I highlighted the shit out of this book!
Beatriz: Exactly what Wil said, they would always be upfront with each other about their feelings, and move on based on that. That is a great way to build a foundation for any relationship
Jaime: Their little jealous scene at the bar was awesome, it made them seem really real to me.
Perry: Oh I was in highlighting mania from the first page. The prose sparkles with humor and wit.
Angie: Yes!!! Complete and total honesty.
Beatriz: Yes. And no instalove!!!
Wil: Yes! No insta love!
Beatriz: The way their relationship progressed felt very real
Christina: Yes! I was happy there was no insta love
Beatriz: And nothing was rushed
Perry: Definitely not the emotional arcs. They were well paced and well developed.
Angie: The pace was perfect.
What about the sex? Was this super hot or what?
Shannon: Oh lord have mercy!
Angie: Duuuuude. Panties *Poof*
Shannon: I needed a fan and I’d like to point out its winter in Canada.
Jaime: I got the tingles
Beatriz: Nothing vanilla about Allie, haha
Christina: It was scorching hot!!!!!!!! Like I’m pretty sure I worked up a sweat just by reading it!
Wil: Ah yes, Allie was as wild as Dean in bed! Loved that.
Perry: It was loud, it was crazy, it was molten lava hot. Those two are incendiary together.
Jaime: They were all kinds of kinky.
Shannon: Not kidding when we said they were perfect! In this sense especially.
Perry: That’s actually one of the things that I loved about Allie, that she has the sexual energy to match Dean on every level. Maybe to even surpass him. He definitely has a handful there!
Beatriz: And there was some imprinting involved 😉😂
Angie: I love how they both tried new things. That was the one thing I loved about Allie, she wasn’t shy as to what she wanted.
Perry: Yes but not BDSM kinky, just spicy. And this is a woman who loves to take control.
Angie: Yes, it was perfect.
Wil: I think it’s funny how in the beginning he thought she was boring, until he slept with her!
Perry: Yet he always thought she was very attractive so he wasn’t immune to her allure.
Jaime: I thought it was funny when he kept asking for BJ’s 😆
Shannon: Not only were they both willing to try new things but had the same tastes originally for the most part. Everything was off the charts!
Beatriz: He just knew she was in a serious relationship, and that she liked it. Being on a relationship, I mean
Wil: Yes! It was too awesome!
Ok, let’s discuss the plot twists (without major spoilers since there are some big ones):
Jaime: I liked them, none of them bothered me, they were needed for the story.
Perry: There are a couple of big surprised thrown there… I’m not too sure they worked perfectly for me, but I get where the author was coming from. That’s probably where the fun waned a bit for me. Nothing major it just got real heavy in the least expected manner. Most people will not have any issues though, in fact most readers will find the twists emotional and compelling.
Beatriz: I’m just going to say I wasn’t very happy
Angie: They were necessary, yes, but the placement did NOT work for me. At all.
Christina: I’m not happy about 2 particularly…. I guess that’s all I can say. One I’m super bitter about. The other one I’m ok with, I just think the placement in the story was off for me.
Shannon: I can appreciate them. Don’t necessarily like all of them but that’s part of being a reader. Emotions can get jerked around whether we want them to or not, we’re just along for the ride. Definitely some things I didn’t expect! That’s for sure
Wil: There were a few twists, some I kinda expected, some I didn’t. One major one made me sad. The other stuff didn’t bothered me much. Some things I wasn’t sure the purpose of them View Spoiler »like the stuff with the coach and his daughter « Hide Spoiler
Perry: All in all a bit clunky and hammy but not a deal breaker for me.
Shannon: The one really got me. I didn’t know how to deal with it, I still don’t.
Christina: Yeah I would say the same, Perry. I still loved the story, it didn’t ruin it for me…but it did take away from the story for me.
Angie: I agree, Wil. That storyline wasn’t needed.
Wil: That big one was so unexpected to me.
Angie: Unexpected for sure.
Shannon: Me too 😥
Christina: Yeah it was. I’m not happy about that one at all. I wish it could have been different! I wish it could have been so bad!!!
Beatriz: I think that some things that happened to Dean because of one of the major twists were unnecessary and also too harsh
Jaime: I really do believe that there are readers out there that wouldn’t of liked Dean if he was a Manwhore just to be a Manwhore, there had to be a reason.
Christina: I 100% agree with you, Beatriz!
Angie: Yes, Beatriz, too harsh. Jaime, I agree completely but it seemed like a filler and it didn’t end up going anywhere.
Perry: Jaime, I agree… Which is why I understand the purpose for that backstory. It was a safe approach and Elle did fine with it.
Wil: Yeah I agree Jaime. I just think it kinda went nowhere. But it didn’t make me mad. I loved the story. I don’t think his punishment was harsh, he plays NCAA division I, that’s what happens to you.
Perry: All things considered. We have to take into consideration that these books aren’t exactly subversive or daring. They pretty much follow a certain formula that Elle manages to make feel fresh every time.
Angie: That’s true, Perry.
Jaime: Very true Perry.
Jaime: I on the other hand would not of cared if Dean was a hoe for no reason 😊
Perry: Jaime… I agree!!
Angie: Ahh, Wil, I didn’t know that.
Wil: Manwhore and proud! The life of Dean!
Angie: Good to know.
Perry: the life of Dean is pretty sweet lol
What did you loved the most about The Score?
Perry: The humor!
Angie: The humor.
Wil: Allie and Dean’s relationship, every second of it.
Shannon: The constant banter!
Christina: Dean+Allie= smoking hot sex
Beatriz: That’s Allie and Dean’s relationship for me too
What you least liked about The Score?
Beatriz: O’Shea. His presence annoyed the hell out of me
Jaime: That it ended😢
Perry: Dean’s portrayal in the last quarter of the book.
Shannon: The one big event, I was crushed.
Wil: The ending and how it wasn’t about Dean and Allie. The way their story shifted into someone else didn’t feel like a true standalone. It didn’t make them justice when compared to the Epilogues of The Deal and The Mistake.
Christina: My answer is a spoiler…. or basically the last 25% of the book.
Jaime: Oh, I wanted to mention the relationship between Dean and the kids he helped and the little girl it was so cute.
Beatriz: Actually, what I least liked is that “the big event” had to happen so the world would fall on Dean’s head and he would prove Allie’s dad and O’Shea right. I absolutely hated it to be honest
Shannon: I’m with B on this one I think.
Christina: B!!! Exactly! I hated the big event and everything that followed. It didn’t like how it all fell on him.
Beatriz: Nobody gave Dean enough credit, not even some of his closest friends, but sure, let’s just give them reason
Jaime: Some times you have to prove yourself, I didn’t mind it.
Christina: I 100% agree, Beatriz
Beatriz: Exactly, Jaime. So, the whole book, Dean doesn’t have much space for character development, but then because of an acident all that happens. I’m not a fan of how things happened, that’s all
Wil: It didn’t make me mad, it wasn’t unrealistic. Did I wish it would’ve been different? Probably. But it was well executed, he’s young and stupid.
Do you recommend The Score?
Perry: Yes absolutely. Especially if you’re already a fan of this series.
Jaime: Hell ya! Thank-you Elle for bringing Dean into my life, I will never forget him
