A troubled Scottish rugby player who doesn't play by the rules. A vivacious man-eater who's given up on love. When it comes to Lachlan and Kayla, opposites don't just attract - they explode.

From the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling author of The Pact and The Offer, comes The Play, a standalone spinoff and contemporary romance about taking chances and rescuing hearts.
Kayla Moore has always been comfortable with her feisty, maneating reputation. At least it was fine until she hit her thirties and saw her best friends Stephanie and Nicola settle down with Linden and Bram McGregor, leaving Kayla to be the odd one out. Tired of being the third wheel with nothing but one-night stands and dead-end dates in San Francisco, Kayla decides to take a vow of celibacy and put men on the backburner.

That is until she lays her eyes on Linden and Bram’s cousin, hot Scot Lachlan McGregor. Lachlan is her sexual fantasy come to life – tall, tatted, and built like a Mack truck. With a steely gaze and successful rugby career back in Edinburgh, he’s the kind of man that makes her want to throw her vow right out the window. But Lachlan’s quiet and intense demeanor makes him a hard man to get to know, let alone get close to.
It isn’t until the two of them are thrown together one long, unforgettable night that Kayla realizes there is so much more to this brooding macho man than what meets the eye. But even with sparks flying between the two, Lachlan can’t stay in America forever. Now, Kayla has to decide whether to uproot her whole life and chance it all on someone she barely knows or risk getting burned once again.
Sometimes love is a game that just needs to be played.

This book is a freakin’ frackin’ TEN!!!!! The simple fact that the prologue alone had me snot crying told me that my heart would be doomed.

The Offer and The Pact were already on my TBR list, but I hadn’t gotten around to them yet. I was urged to read The Play like, STAT. Even though this series is dubbed as standalones, I still like to start from the beginning because of the secondary characters, but I thought, what the hell and decided that I’ll go backwards and read this one first. I. AM. SO. GLAD. I. DID!!!

I knew that Karina’s muse for Lachlan was Tom Hardy. There was a fanmade video floating around social media portraying Kayla as the gorgeous Kristen Kreuk and I’m so glad that I had these two beautiful people to visualize in my mind.

Kayla.  I need to address her first.  As my sister wife calls her, she is my spirit animal too! 1. She’s Asian. I LOVE being surprised and reading other ethnicities in characters, male or female. We meet Kayla in the previous books and I am beyond thrilled that she got her own stage and what a f**king stage it was. She’s so strong on so many levels and I love that about her. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind, she’s definitely not shy and goes after what she wants.

Lachlan. JAYSUS. Lachlan. I can’t even right now. I swear he’s THE hottest hero I’ve ever met. He’s swoony. He melts my panties. If you haven’t read this book yet, don’t bother wearing any. Christ. He let’s Kayla in and falls for her all while trying to fight off his own demons. I just love him so much! I love them BOTH together!  Seriously, THE scenes in this damn book, I swear my phone was freaking sweating! Tee hee. *Blushes*

I can go on and on about the storyline and more on the characters but I refuse to give anymore away!  I love this book so much that I went back to re-read it for a second time AFTER I was done! That’s how much I loved it.

Last, but not least the backstory with his love of dogs. GAH. That touched me beyond words.  I have a soft spot in my heart for dogs and throw in a man who takes them in and helps them?! SWOON. Yes, please!

I can’t wait for more by Karina Halle and we’re getting a Christmas novella this month called Winter Wishes, so keep your eyes peeled for that!
