She’s about to make a deal with the college bad boy...
Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she’s carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush’s attention, she’ll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice…even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date.
...and it’s going to be oh so good.
All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduation, but his plummeting GPA is threatening everything he’s worked so hard for. If helping a sarcastic brunette make another guy jealous will help him secure his position on the team, he’s all for it. But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex of both their lives, it doesn’t take long for Garrett to realize that pretend isn’t going to cut it. Now he just has to convince Hannah that the man she wants looks a lot like him.

This book for me was just NA perfection. It didn’t wallow in over the top angst. It didn’t overdo the sex scenes. It didn’t have one or both MCs suddenly suffering a lobotomy and making stupid decisions just for the sake of drama. It all simply… worked. Just like that. Elle Kennedy is one accomplished orchestra director here, or maybe something akin to an expert lab chemist, blending all the ingredients in just the right dose to create a neatly balanced story that hits all the right notes along the way. Yep, I’m happy to say The Deal lived up to the hype. HUZZAH!
I hate going into plot summaries so I won’t do so. But I can say that, even though the actual story isn’t anything particularly original, the execution was just fantastic. Really, there is nothing particularly new about this plot. It reminded me a lot of Kristen Callihan’s The Hook Up (an excellent book) and Shay Savage’s Offside (another amazing read). Regardless, there was a sense of realness to these characters and their situation that made the book a must read. Even if you’ve read the same basic premise, this is still special and can stand on its own.
I love the way the relationship between Hannah and Garrett seemed to evolve slowly and not with a case of insta-lust or insta-love, which for me can be evidence of lazy writing. I love the way Garrett pursued Hannah so relentless, both in the beginning when he only wanted her as a tutor and later when he wanted her as much more than that. I totally bought their chemistry.
I loved the frank, candid quality of this relationship. It was no bullshit all the way.
The sex was just the right dose and I’m so glad that there are authors still that understand that romance readers aren’t in it for the endless sex, but for a solid plot and a believable romance. Sex is the icing on the cake, it shouldn’t be the one thing stringing a flimsy plot together. If I wanted porn without plot I’d just hit Pornhub. The few sex scenes there were absolutely scorched my iPad. And let me tell you that first time… when they shared that experience together View Spoiler »masturbating in front of each other without even laying a finger on each other’s body « Hide Spoiler I thought that was so cleverly done!
I look forward to the rest of the books in this series. I have an idea the next one will be about one of Garrett’s Hockey teammates. I’m kinda hoping it’s Logan.
Such a sweet, fun, sexy read.
